“There are going to be events and circumstances that knock you down to where you feel like giving up,” said Owen Blumhagen, an Iowa Select Farms Future Ag Leaders Scholarship recipient. “The most important part is that you keep going.”
It’s his approach to tough challenges and positive mindset that led him to pursue a degree at UNI in actuarial science--the study of the financial implications of uncertain future events.
Owen says he drives himself to keep a positive mindset and set challenging personal goals. He also enjoys interacting with people. These attributes are sure to contribute to a very successful future.
Owen’s family is from Ames and his father, Brian, works for Iowa Select as the Director of Construction and Maintenance. His favorite memory of Iowa Select Farms is when he took a tour of a new sow farm. He was amazed by the details and organization of constructing the facilities that house our pigs.
