The employees of Iowa Select Farms depend on good reliable day care every day, and Tammy is a perfect example of just how fundamental day cares are to our employees and rural Iowa.

“Tammy is a staple in the Iowa Falls area,” said Ashley, an employee of Iowa Select Farms. “She is flexible, understanding and always willing to step up and help out. She has been looking after my kids since they were both just six weeks old, and we couldn’t do what we do without her. She isn’t just a provider; she is a part of our family.”

Twenty years later, Tammy still has the same passion and love for looking after kids as she did when she started. She loves what she does and has dedicated significant parts of her home to ensure kids have a fun, welcoming and playful environment.

“In-home day cares are such an important of our homegrown Iowa communities,” said Ali Kraber, a representative of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. “These day care providers retrofit large parts of their own homes to make sure kids love being in their care. We could never say thank you enough dedication these wonderful individuals have to help care for our kids in our rural communities.”

As Tammy helped unpack toys, she shared what the last 20 years have meant to her as a provider--the ups and downs, the kids she watched that are now having kids of their own and the role in the community she has played.

“You just do what you have to do to help,” said Tammy. “I have wonderful parents, and I get to take care of and be a small part of some really wonderful kids’ lives. That is life in rural Iowa, you take care of one another, so I will just continue to do my part.”
