Church Women United Thrift Store Receives a $100,000 Donation

Rubber dinosaurs, stacking rings, a toy soldier snowman, winter coats, racks of clothes, and the smiles of Christian women. This is what shoppers at the Church Women United Thrift Store can expect to see every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

If you look closer, you can see oscillating fans strategically placed around the shop, resting silently in these cooler months after valiantly attempting to keep shoppers comfortable while they search through the crowded racks and stacks teeming with treasures. To say the shop has outgrown its current home would be an understatement.

After 45 years of growth, overflowing donations, and limited parking spaces, the Church Women United (CWU) Thrift Store has purchased a new building.

And thanks to a generous contribution by the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, CWU can expand and retrofit the new space in order to meet the needs of the Thrift Store.

In December, employees from Iowa Select Farms presented CWU with a $100,000 check from the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

Christian Women United has been collecting every quarter of revenue to give back to Iowa Falls. In 2019, CWU collected, counted and distributed $133,200 to more than 40 regional and area charitable organizations to support their programs and services. Additionally, they gave three scholarships to graduating seniors to continue their education at Ellsworth Community College.

The $100,000 donation from the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation will also help put those oscillating fans out of business because an efficient, pleasant and air-conditioned shopping environment is in store for area shoppers.

Construction will be completed on the new facility in the Spring of 2020, with a grand opening soon after.
