Congratulations to Rick Mast for celebrating 15 years with Iowa Select Farms!

Rick was hired as a nursery animal caretaker in 2004 and since then has worked in a variety of different farms, including sow farms and GDUs.

“When you find something you like, you stick with it,” said Rick. “I’ve always received good pay, benefits and enjoy the variety of work. I also work with great people.”

In his current role as a breeding technician at Sow 9, Rick helps with daily animal movements, chores, heat checking, pregnancy checking and breeding.

Over the past 15 years as his roles have changed, so has pork production.

“Biosecurity has been the biggest change, for sure,” said Rick. “But all of the new rules and procedures we have in place are definitely a good thing. It’s minimized a lot of disease and improved herd health.”

When he’s not at work, Rick enjoys cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and attends many football, basketball and softball games with his wife, Nancy. The two have been married for 26 years and live in Nancy’s hometown, Hampton. They also enjoy camping and usually take a week to travel somewhere together every year.

“We look forward to the ISU football and basketball games that the company sends us to and also Adventureland and the Iowa State Fair,” said Rick. “My daughter, Amanda, takes the day off from work and it’s a nice family vacation for us. It’s been a tradition of ours since I started working at Iowa Select.”

Congratulations, Rick! Thank you for 15 years of dedication to Iowa Select Farms.
