“I get the opportunity to work with a lot of awesome employees and contractors and Trent was one that I remember just getting it,” said Craig Schrage, finishing animal caretaker trainer. “He’s a smart, hard-working guy that was motivated to learn. He was eager to soak up as much information as he could.”

Congratulations to Trent Myers and his team of growers on their recent SelectPride success!

Trent’s team consists of Kyle and Butch Kampman, Andy Barnett, Chase Capper, Lane Bass, Nancy Schrage, Shane Harken and Matt Behrends. Together, the team cares for 94,000 pigs.

“When you look at the group of growers that I get to work with on a daily basis, it’s easy to understand how we tied for the first place spot,” said Trent. “They really know what they’re doing when it comes to animal and farm care. I work with a very experienced team.”

Growing up in the small, rural town of Dike, Trent always had an interest in agriculture; however, aside from helping his Uncle with chores every now and then, he had no prior pig experience. After high school, he pursued a career in Ag business at nearby Hawkeye Community College and then joined a local cooperate full-time.

“I’ve always known a lot of people who worked for Iowa Select Farms as growers,” he said. “I was looking for a change of pace and from what I knew, it seemed like a good opportunity. I really liked the idea of doing something new every day.”

In his role as a finishing supervisor, Trent conducts daily farm assessments, helps managers with chores and treatments, light barn repair and maintenance, ensures all farms have necessary supplies, record keeping and quite possibly the biggest job—marketing pigs.

“When you put everything we do down on paper it seems like a lot, but it’s a really fun job,” he said. “It makes a difference when you enjoy what you do when you’re getting out of bed in the morning. Unless it’s 2 AM in the winter for an alarm call, but luckily those don’t happen too often.”

In addition to enjoying his work, Trent enjoys the flexibility of setting his own schedule, having an awesome team of growers and working at a company where everyone is willing to help each other out.

“It’s really exciting to see our young finishing supervisors like Trent succeed so early on in their career,” said Allen Whiley, director of grow-finish. “He’s got a great team, but I know they all appreciate the communication and support he provides them. They all work really well together and it’s fun to celebrate their success.”

Congratulations to Trent, Kyle, Butch, Andy, Chase, Lane, Nancy, Shane and Matt on your SelectPride success!
