Dennis Celebrates 15 Years with Iowa Select Farms

Congrats to Dennis on 15 years with Iowa Select Farms!
Like many of us, when asked where he’s worked over his 15 years pig farming, Dennis chuckles and responds, “I’ve been everywhere.” And he’s right, Iowa Select Farms employees have ample opportunity to try new things and experience different types of farms and production areas.
Fifteen years ago, Dennis jumped in to the breeding and farrowing team at Jernquist Sow Farm, then eventually moved over to Thayer and Clarke sow farms.
Today, he’s a part of the southern Iowa gilt development team and goes “wherever Randy needs me,” referring to his supervisor. And today, that means working at both Glenview and Davis 1 and also partnering with his colleague, Alvan, on a breeding project.
Dennis says he’s always appreciated the flexible hours and freedom being able to get into work early and get the chores done. “Back when I started, I was a single dad raising three kids, and I needed to juggle a lot of responsibilities. All of the farms I have worked at have been less than 20 miles from my house, and today I’m eight miles away.”
Dennis said over the years he’s appreciated the culture. “The company does a lot for us, and I really enjoy working with Randy, Alvan and the team. “There are a lot of new faces, and also a lot of familiar ones, too. It’s been a good experience.”
