Ending the Day at Cherokee Middle School

posted on Monday, November 8, 2021

Closing out our seventh day of deliveries for our 2021 Power Snack is Cherokee Middle School.

"Power Snack gives our students and families the opportunity to purchase quality ingredients," said Scot Aden, Principal at Cherokee Middle School. "It's wonderful for us to be able to help students out without them feeling ashamed of accepting it." These nutritious, protein-packed goodies are through the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Power Snack™ program, which has been helping food-insecure Iowa children for nine years.

Four times throughout the school year, at least 200 students at Cherokee Middle School will receive a Power Snack coupon booklet. Each booklet contains a $5 coupon for deli ham and $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat bread. Combining the energy and carbohydrates of whole wheat bread with the protein of ham means the children will have made themselves a real Power Snack.
This year, 76,800 Power Snack coupons and 20,000 Pork Sticks will be distributed at 89 schools across Iowa, Cherokee being just one district of many.

As a bonus, we had the pleasure of meeting Charlie, the golden doodle, who brightens many student's days at Cherokee Middle School.

That is the end of our travels for today but stay tuned as we have many exciting stops yet this month.
