“Fun events like the Iowa State Fair that Iowa Select Farms gives to their employees, like my family, has shown me the value that this company puts into its employees,” said Ally, a Future Ag Leaders Scholarship winner. “It has shown me further how this industry supports flexibility and its people.”

Ally currently attends Des Moines Area Community College and is studying Animal Science. She hails from Diagonal, where she has lived on a farm since she was 10 years old. Her stepdad, Clint, and mom, Audrey, changed this small-town girl into farm girl. Her parents are gilt developer unit (GDU) managers for Iowa Select Farms.

Through her experiences on the farm, Ally has shaped her love of animals into a passion. “Having livestock experience has helped me see that I want to work with animals for the rest of my life,” she said. With her parents supporting her every step of the way, Ally brings a unique background of raising pigs at home but also traveling on the road with her family to show sheep.

Ally’s favorite quote, from the famed animated movie Finding Nemo, is, “When life gets you down do you want know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming,” said Dory. This saying helps remind her that when things don’t go your way or life throws you challenges you just keep your head up and keep working towards your goals.

Ally has put this advice to good use. She worked three jobs through high school so that she could pursue her dreams to work with animals. Keep swimming to your goal, Ally!
