“Receiving this scholarship from Iowa Select Farms is just an additional great benefit of this company,” said Kayla, a Future Ag Scholarship recipient. “My family loves working for Iowa Select Farms and greatly appreciates all it has done for us.”

Growing up in Denison, agriculture has always been important part of Kayla’s life. Her dad, Mike is a production supervisor for Iowa Select Farms and her uncle is a row crop farmer. Kayla’s participation in 4-H and FFA shaped her into the leader she is today through her experiences in raising animals and taking ag classes. Having been involved in these activities, Kayla grew up knowing that agriculture was important and appreciates the work that it takes to be successful.

Kayla is currently an Elementary Education major at UNI. She hopes to someday manifest the compassion and understanding that her former 2nd grade teacher showed her at an impressable age. During a difficult year, her teacher was there for her emotionally as well as academically. She offered extra help and support when a young girl was going through things that she didn’t know how to handle on her own. Kayla realizes that teachers are more than just educators. She wants to be there for all her future students beyond the books. “Students may need a little extra help finding their road to success. The extra guidance can boost their confidence and allow them to go above and beyond presumed expectations,” states Kayla. “I hope to make a positive impact in their childhood the way one of my elementary teachers did for me.”

It is no surprise that Kayla appreciates the quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” as teaching has direct impact on future generations and can change a heart or mind forever.
