Big thanks to the over 400 friends, neighbors, agricultural and community leaders and suppliers who attended the open house and ribbon cutting for our newest farm—Hale finisher.
While we love to open our barn doors to demonstrate how we care for our animals and environment, this one was extra special. Iowa Select Farms announced a major commitment to odor reduction through a new partnership with the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) Green Farmstead Program, and also the adoption of electrostatic fences, a new technology to mitigate dust odor coming out of the barns.
A short program featured comments by Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Julie Kenney, Al Anderson of Williams, CSIF Executive Director Brian Waddingham and Iowa Select Chief Operating Officer Noel Williams. The visitors enjoyed tours of the farm and a pork loin lunch.
The Hale Finisher Farm will provide crop nutrients for Al Anderson, who will utilize the manure on three nearby fields. His son-in-law, Josh England, will manage the 4,800 head, tunnel-ventilated, wean-to-finish farm.
