This year, Haul Out Hunger delivered 12 cases of pork loins for the community of Forest City. In total, the loins will yield 2,592 servings of protein-packed pork for area families in need.
Our visit included two stops: one at the Neighborhood Food Pantry and a second (but our first time there!) at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
"We serve a weekly meal for the community, free of charge," explained Jaci Thorsen, longtime secretary at Immanuel Lutheran. "We see a lot of families with children come through, working adults, it really varies. Hunger doesn't discriminate."
In addition to weekly meals, the church collects donations for families in a food cart. Donations are distributed to individuals and families in-need during the community meal.
"Most of our donations come from within the church so this is a very big blessing for us," continued Jaci. "We normally prepare soups, pastas and casseroles, but now we have the supplies for several hearty, pork-centered meals."
