Ignite the Spirit with Clear Lake Sailors 4-H
posted on Monday, December 27, 2021
Shout out to the Clear Lake Sailors 4-H Club for helping feed families this holiday season.
We're still getting pictures from the almost 50 student-based organizations that participated in the Ignite the Spirit Program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, and these are just in!
This 4-H club put together take-home meals that were available to local families through the food pantry at South Hamilton High School from mid-December until Christmas break. The pork loins donated by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation were paired with extra fixings purchased with the donated funds to make a complete Christmas meal.
These 4-Her’s partnered with the South Hamilton FFA to put together the meals and make this a joint project. Both clubs are very large and active in the community, so they were able to impact about 50 families through their efforts. After the initial connection with the food pantry, the group decided to take their work a step further.
“We held an event in conjunction with the Santa event our town library does. Then, we ended up taking the meals out into the community and personally delivering them to people who could use some extra help,” said 4-H Club Leader Suzanne Sogard. “It was such a blessing to be able to do that and we hope to do it again next year!”
Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.
Kudos to all the students that made this project possible!
