Igniting the Spirit with Early Achievers 4-H

posted on Monday, December 27, 2021

Hats off to the Early Achievers 4-H Club for their tremendous service to the community!

This 4-H club was one of almost 50 student-based organizations that participated in the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

Members of the 4-H club used the provided funds to purchase sides including canned vegetables, canned fruit, stuffing mix, and a dessert mix. They used these sides and the delicious Iowa Select Farms pork loins to create meal kits which were donated to the Early Food Pantry located at Sacred Heart Parish Center in Early, IA and distributed to over 30 families in need within the community.

Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.

As part of the program, FFA chapters and 4-H clubs also receive event kits with aprons along with a check for $250 to purchase additional food for the meal. It was a meaningful project for everyone involved.

“Thank you for helping to give us the opportunity to donate to those in need in our community,” said 4-H Club leader, Christy Horan.

Way to go, Early Achievers 4-H Club members!
