Joe Becker Celebrates 15 Years of Service

Working as a Sow Farm Manager with Iowa Select Farms for the past 15 years has been more than just a job for Joe Becker; it's a connection to his heritage. “I grew up showing pigs with my brothers and sisters, so I can still go back to my roots and work with pigs through Iowa Select Farms, which has been a major part of my life for so long,” said Joe.
“I have had the privilege to work with some amazing people and have enjoyed watching them succeed,” said Joe. Throughout Joe’s 15 years with Iowa Select Farms, he couldn’t help but talk about the success of others rather than himself. He recalls witnessing the growth of individuals within the company. "I had a TN visa employee who started as an animal caretaker and later became a farrow department head and then a manager,” adding, “I watched him grow within the company and become a great leader for his farm; it has been so fun watching him flourish. He is such a hard worker."
In 2017, Joe’s team won the Select Pride award for several weeks and became the top sow farm in the company, “I was proud of the people because I know how hard they worked for our sows to be healthy, both in farrowing and breeding.”
In Joe’s free time, he loves hanging out with his family, showing cattle, and fishing. Passing down his love for 4-H to his two kids, Tyler and Cassidy, has been particularly fulfilling for Joe. He and his wife, Susan, have been married for 30 years and have built a life on their small farm south of Diagonal caring for Rosie the lab, Bernie the donkey, around 30 Angus cows and a handful of barnyard cats. Thank you, Joe, for gracing us with your selflessness, dedication and hard work for the past 15 years and counting.
