Onto Latimer to deliver 500 Power Snack coupon booklets and 200 Pork Sticks for local students at CAL-Dows.
A program of Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, Power Snack provides children with the food ingredients to make their own protein-packed “Power Snacks” at home.
Since the program started in 2013, 3,620 students in Franklin County have received Power Snack.
According to the Food Bank of Iowa, one in seven Iowa children are considered food insecure. Holiday breaks are usually when most students struggle with food insecurity, but COVID-19 presented additional challenges for schools, including how to keep their students well-fed even when they’re not in the building. As farmers, we believe it is our responsibility to give back, help our fellow Iowans and make our communities stronger.
Which is why we’re spending this week (and last!) traveling the state of Iowa donating 97,500 Power Snack deli ham and whole wheat bread coupon booklets and 20,000 Pork Sticks—enough resources for at-risk kids in Iowa to make 1,170,000 nutritious meals at-home.
