“This is the place where I work, and what we’re doing this to help the community makes me proud,” said Dennis Nelson, manager of Huls gilt developer farm. “It brings tears to my eyes.”

Dennis was one of more than a dozen employees who took part in Operation Christmas Meal in Mount Ayr, Iowa, on Monday, December 3, from 7-9 a.m.

Operation Christmas Meal kicked off Friday in Des Moines, where Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation passed out thousands of pork loins to families in need.

The day began early in Mount Ayr, with new teams of employees volunteering at mid-day and evening Operation Christmas Meal locations in Afton and Humeston.

Lasea Weeda, manager of N16 outside of Mount Ayr also helped pass out loins. “This is where I live, where I graduated high school, and where my kids go to school,” she said. “I wanted to be a part of this and help give back.”

Joe Becker and Mikey Shields, managers of Parker Sow Farm and Sow Ringgold Sow Farms, respectively, agree. “These are our towns and communities, and to be able to give back and give the gift of a holiday meal warms our hearts, too.”

Operation Christmas Meal is a program of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation and Iowa Select Farms and is intended to help food insecure families in Iowa.
