Power Snack 2022 Heads to Waverly-Shell Rock

posted on Monday, November 7, 2022

Another beautiful Monday to be PowerSnack-ing through our Homegrown Iowa communities!

“The PowerSnack program allows us to teach students about nutrition and provide availability for ham and bread,” said Kristie Kuhse, teacher at Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School. “The coupon booklets enable families to incorporate healthy food into their homes and meals.”

Kristie nailed this description. The PowerSnack program was created to not only fight hunger across Iowa, but to provide opportunities for students and families to sidestep the unhealthy options in the grocery store and fill their carts with the nutrients and protein that deli ham and whole wheat bread provides. Without these essentials, students are not able to perform at their absolute best throughout the day.

Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School received 700 PowerSnack coupons today, accounting for 700 pounds of deli ham and 700 loaves of whole wheat bread. The total of these coupons is valued at $5,600 in deli ham and $2,100 in whole wheat bread. This will bring a lot easier options for families and students as they gear up for the upcoming holiday extended break from school.
