“We have many students suffering from food insecurity,” shared Kristi Dierking, School Counselor at Clarke Community Schools Elementary School. “Teachers and the school nurse use their own funds in an effort to keep food on hand for those who have not eaten when they come to school.”

The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation recognizes the vast efforts school faculty put forth to help their students feel energized and cared for, even when it comes from their own pockets. We also recognize how hard many parents and families work to provide healthy food options for their children, and sometimes trips to the grocery store can still be tough.

The cost of living as at an all-time high, and that is why we are honored to provide Clarke Elementary with 1,200 Power Snack coupons today containing $8 off deli ham and $3 for a loaf of whole wheat bread. This number of coupons will help provide over 12,000 Power Snacks for students in need. Our goal is to not only help relieve hunger in students, but to also show our support for teachers and school staff in our Homegrown Iowa communities.

“Hungry students worry first about being hungry and secondly about learning,” added Dierking. “If we can help alleviate their concerns about food, it may enhance their opportunity for optimal learning as well.”

The goal of the Power Snack program is to tear down their barriers and give students the ability to solely focus on learning and development, and we are glad these coupons can help provide that.
