“The Power Snack coupons promote healthy eating amongst all students,” said Jennifer Danley, Business Manager at Murray Community Schools.

Not only does the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation have a goal of battling hunger throughout Iowa, but giving Iowans access to quality and nutritious protein in their meals. The Power Snack program provides coupons for $8 worth of deli ham and $3 for a loaf of whole wheat bread. Murray Community School District received 500 of the coupons today, valued at $4,000 worth of deli ham and $1,500 worth of whole wheat bread.

Ham is a nutrient-dense option, providing the essentials needed for proper growth, development and cognitive learning – all things children need in order to be successful in and out of the classroom.

We look forward to the amount of students the coupons will be shared with as we approach the first extended break from school during Thanksgiving – a time when many wonder where their next meal will come from. Because of the Power Snack program, students and families will be able to confidently browse the grocery store aisles for a healthy and protein-packed option.
