Power Snack Donation Means a Lot to Albert City-Truesdale Schools

"It's a great feeling to know as teachers that we're able to provide these Power Snack coupons for our students and families," said Kim Ellrich, Secretary at Albert City-Truesdale Elementary School. "This donation means a lot to our families and gives students a nutritional snack and meal."

With 1 in 8 Iowa children facing food insecurity, Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation are fighting back with ham sandwiches, pork sticks and educational resources for teachers. These nutritious, protein-packed goodies are through the Foundation’s Power Snack™ program, which has been helping food-insecure Iowa children for nine years.

800 Power Snack coupon booklets were graciously left with the Hurricanes. Each booklet contains a $5 coupon for deli ham and $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat bread. Combining the energy and carbohydrates of whole wheat bread with the protein of ham means the children will have made themselves a real Power Snack.

This year, 76,800 Power Snack coupons and 20,000 Pork Sticks will be distributed at 89 schools across Iowa, Albert City-Truesdale being just one district of many.

Tune back in to see where we're headed next!
