Recognizing Bridget's In-Home Day Care in Corydon

“I love taking care of kids, and that’s why I do it,” said Bridget, a day care provider in Corydon. “We have dedicated a space to it because our community needs it, but most importantly, I love being a part of my day care kids' lives. If you ask me why for doing this, I would say why not do this. I really love it that much.”
We walked into a dedicated space equipped with two cribs, a full-size bed, a kitchen, an eating area, several play areas, bookcases and several toys scattered throughout the dedicated in home day care space. This space, which was years in the making, was Bridget’s in-home day care. It was really something special to see the work they have done to help families in the Corydon and surrounding communities over the years have a safe and sound place for kids while parents work. Almost all the kids who attend the day care have a farming background.
Erica, an employee of Iowa Select Farms, nominated Bridget’s in-home day care, where she and many in her family send their kids while the parents work.
“I could probably never be able to put into words what Bridget means to our family, but I will try,” said Erica. “She truly loves being around them and helping them grow and learn. She really values the ability to share what is in her backyard with the kids, so they learn to appreciate it. Some people say it takes a village, but it takes a farming community for us. Bridget puts a special value on the importance of farming and what it means to the world. It goes beyond that; if I am honest, she helps instill the valuable life skills that will help ensure we inspire the next generation of kids who want to take over our family farms. Without people like her, we wouldn’t have the vibrant rural communities we do. We could honestly never say thank you to her enough.”
Aside from the impact of teaching the kids in her care about farming and the value of hard work, she makes a substantial and positive impact on new parents. When we think of day cares, they really become extensions of our families.
“She also goes above and beyond to help the parents with the hard transition and provide advice and guidance to new parents,” said Erica. “Some days, you just need someone to talk to, and I am lucky I have someone like Bridget.”
