“I’ve loved gaining confidence in my ability to work with pigs,” said Addisyn, a sow production intern at Iowa Select Farms this summer. “I have no background in working with swine at all, so going from not knowing the lingo or what anyone was saying to being able to do tasks on my own was so rewarding.”

Originally from Bellingham Minnesota, Addisyn will be a senior at South Dakota State University this fall where she is studying animal science with a minor in meat science. She came from a non-swine background and hoped her internship at Iowa Select would give her more hands-on experience with the industry.

“I wanted to have a more diverse work experience in the agriculture world. I had never worked with swine before this summer and really wanted to get real world experience,” she explained. “Iowa Select had a really structured internship program that I thought would push me to learn a lot.”

Even though Addisyn didn’t have much experience coming into her role, she has risen to the challenge and made the most of her time at the company this summer.

“For coming to Iowa Select and having no swine experience, she has learned quickly and is not afraid to get dirty,” said her farm manager Eric. “Addisyn gets along well with others and is willing to help wherever is needed.”

We were grateful that you could join the Iowa Select family this summer, Addisyn. Best of luck as you wrap up the summer!

A few more #ISFInterns21 spotlights will be coming your way this week, so keep an eye out for them.
