Our next #ISFInterns21 highlight features Jocelyn, a sow production intern from Muscatine, Iowa. Jocelyn is a student at Iowa State University where she is studying animal science. She decided to pursue an internship with Iowa Select because she wanted to gain experience in swine facilities over the summer. Jocelyn definitely achieved that goal with all of the new things she learned this summer.
“It’s been exciting to learn how to care for, breed and treat sows, as well as learning new things about piglet care,” she said. “Right now, I’m in breeding which means I’m in charge of sow treatments, and I help out with breeding and moving sows.”
The hard work and attention to detail Jocelyn puts into every interaction with the pigs has made a difference on her farm.
“Jocelyn has progressed nicely at our farm while working in the breeding department,” said her manager, John. “She has learned several new production skills like PCAI and sow treatments and has developed into a fine animal caretaker.”
Thanks for being part of the Iowa Select family this summer, Jocelyn. Keep up the great work!
